How long does it take to make a sword?
A long time! We make swords in batches of about 50 over the course of a week or so. Each batch takes about 10 hours.
Do the brothers make the swords by themselves?
Although they love to tell people that they do it all themselves with absolutely no help at all, the truth is that we a variety of dangerous power tools to make each sword. The boys help but can’t safely do it all so they get some help from Dad.
Where does the leather come from?
We started by ordering leather strips from Amazon but now we get our leather directly from local and national suppliers. Whiskey Leatherworks was super nice and showed us how to take a sheet of leather and cut it into the 1/2″ strips we need for the handles.
What do the brothers do with the money?
Well, we’re a big fan of Lego and sword money has definitely bought a couple new Lego sets. The boys have also reinvested into the business! We got a cool banner for our farmer’s market table and a canopy to keep us out of the sun. We’re also looking at some local non-profits to donate proceeds to!
How do you add names to the swords?
This is where Mom comes in because she has the best handwriting! Mom writes the customer name lightly in pencil and then traces it with a wood-burning pen.
